DeFi Society Studio, producer of Mad Rabbits Riot Club and publisher of Hotel Hush, proudly presents Vampunk, the genesis NFT drop of Taiwan-based artist The Magnetic Cat. Magnetic first came onto the NFT scene as one of the main artists behind the collectible project Mad Rabbits Riot Club and its subsequent lines Mad Rabbits Horror Show and Mad Rabbits Gang Wars. Magnetic Cat was instrumental in conceptualizing the world of Mad Rabbits, and his amazing designs have led to him amassing a great following throughout the NFT community. Now for his first NFT drop under his own name, Magnetic Cat introduces us to a wild and surreal futuristic world full of high-tech necromancers and outlaws, Vampunk.
In the not so distant future, the discovery and commodification of magic and its applications to cybernetic augmentation have completely remapped the human genome and led to the creation of a new social order of enhanced individuals; leaving those who can’t afford magic augs to survive in harsh mega-cities and derelict remnants of the old word filled with botched and homebrewed magical denizens.
As worldwide corporations took control of the new Neural-Magik, governments became exponentially less powerful and eventually split full control of the world’s nations and resources amongst Earth’s top 5 leading corporations. As economic competition drew to a stalemate, these leading corps began measuring their worth not by capital, but by military strength and tech proficiency. One development from the “Techno-Militaris” Corpo Wars was a secret experiment conducted on a group of outcasts and “lower class” citizens, dregs considered expendable by the corpo world. This experiment was aimed at creating humans with “beyond-mythological” super-powers that would help usher in a new era of corporate might. The experiment proved unsuccessful and turned the subjects into mutated creatures with a need to consume blood for subsistence. Most of these failed experiments were purged in the lab. A few survivors escaped and created their own factions around the world, some surviving on synthetic blood (or syntheblood) and some resorting to hunting down humans in order to survive.
Vampunk is the first exploration of a madly dangerous world of dystopian machinations and fantastical anti-heroes. It is an artistic journey that will grapple with authority, politics, class, and self identity through the prism of a phantasmagorical cyberpunk universe. The series will be an ever evolving story told through The Magnetic Cat’s artwork, and will continue to develop through time. Welcome to the suck.
