THE MUSES OF THE LAPI LAPIZULIS

Following my last concept of the history of blue, lapis lapizuli, from my editions created in the previous Drop and merging the style of my last Frida Kahlo's editions, I have inspired to create THE MUSES OF THE LAPI LAPIZULIS.

Lapis lazuli is a gem with a characteristic ultramarine blue color, very appreciated in jewelry since ancient times.

Right now I am traveling through Egypt and I have discovered that in ancient Egypt lapis lapizuli was considered a very important and precious stone, adorning the sacred scarabs with it, or in funerary masks. They also used it for medicine in powder form.

The powder of the mineral, lazurite provided a blue pigment, ultramarine blue, and in the Middle Age, it was used to produce the characteristic ultramarine blue pigment for painters. This is was I have painted the hair of my muses with this color, as a tribute to this gems as important for artists.

Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer and Fra Angélico were some of the illustrious painters who brought it to life, even calling lapis lazuli dust "blue gold". At that time, its price was more than four times the price of gold.
