THE LAST SUPPER
The Last Supper refers to the final meal shared by Jesus Christ and his twelve disciples before his crucifixion, as described in the New Testament of the Bible. This significant event took place on the evening before Jesus' arrest and subsequent crucifixion in Jerusalem.
During the Last Supper, Jesus gathered his disciples in an upper room to observe the Jewish festival of Passover. It was during this meal that Jesus instituted the sacrament of the Holy Communion or Eucharist. He took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take, eat; this is my body." He then took a cup of wine, gave thanks, and shared it with his disciples, saying, "Drink from it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."
The Last Supper holds great significance in Christian theology and is often portrayed in art and depicted in religious rituals. It symbolizes Jesus' self-sacrifice and the establishment of the new covenant between God and humanity through his death and resurrection.
The Last Supper is a powerful and poignant moment in Christian history, symbolizing both the unity of the disciples and the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus would make for the redemption of humanity.
