Slash x Ron English

Released Jul 9, 2021

Proud to be the “Canary in the Gold Mine,” world renowned artist Ron English enters the digital art space with a 10-piece Essential Collection, highlighting pivotal points in his long and illustrious career as America’s premier iconoclast. The first NFT in this series references the most famous image in art, the Mona Lisa, paired with English’s signature image, the Grin, a twisted take on the ubiquitous Smiley Face, which reveals the soul when the smile stretches across bone. English created the NFT through stop animation of himself painting his custom Mona Lisa Grin art figure.

Working with Bigshot Toys, English revisits his early career Pop Provocateur persona with American Depress and Uncle Scam. American Depress highlights a certain rodent mascot crucified on a mousetrap cross, and the Uncle Scam series features a downcast and befuddled titan of capitalism on a torched throne. English is well-known for his satirical takes on “Truth in Advertising” and presents two of his Cereal Killer series characters in NFT form with “Fruit Looped” and “Fat Tony,” his anatomically correct mascots who actually eat the food they rep.

Ron English has returned for his second drop with Nifty Gateway. This new collection of small editions and ranked auctions features some of Ron’s favorite Delusionville characters. In this collection we meet Falla Sheep the sheep in wolves clothing, Montana Mouse, a rebel with a spray can, Punk Skunk, who gets high on his own supply, and Forlorn Unicorn, Delusionville’s suicidal idol.

This drop will also introduce the newest Delusionville character, Riff Riff, in collaboration with musician Slash.

Slash – born Saul Hudson in London, England in 1965 – is an iconic American rock guitarist, songwriter, and film producer who has amassed album sales of over 100 million copies, garnered a GRAMMY Award and seven GRAMMY nominations, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Slash came to prominence as the lead guitarist for Guns N’ Roses, creating the timeless guitar riffs to #1 hits “Sweet Child o’ Mine” and “Welcome to the Jungle,” amongst others. He went on to achieve more critical acclaim and global success with supergroups Slash’s Snakepit and Velvet Revolver, as well as with his own band, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators. Slash and Ron English have been frequent collaborators through the years, Ron having created the cover artwork for Slash’s 2010 self-titled album, 2014’s World On Fire, and 2018’s Living The Dream.
