Portal by Bubi Canal

Portal is a new photo series by Bubi Canal that combines a language of symbols with the expressiveness of hand movements: a still-life dance of emotions. In the series, Canal’s monochrome objects become animated by hands emulating plinths. The line between still-life and portrait is blurred; human and plastic elements are unified through texture, contrast, and composition. Canal works intuitively—his objects go from repository to photo like puzzle pieces. The objects in Portal suggest directions while the hands contribute feelings via choreography. The series’ twelve photos are doors into a world of symmetry and mystery.
