ART NO IMITATES LIFE, IT´S LIFE IMITATING ART

Van Gogh, Monalisa and the Pearl Girl reign in Pop art , an artistic movement that emerged in the mid-twentieth century to be inspired by the aesthetics of everyday life and consumer goods of the time, such as advertisements, comic books , «mundane» cultural objects and from the world of cinema. The main intention is to select popular images and remove them from their context as a social critique of consumerism.

Our culture is superficial, it is inexpressive and impersonal. It is repetitive and saturating. It is almost a religion with its icons (advertising logos), its saints (celebrities) and its liturgies (consuming) that anesthetize us to forget the serious problems that await us.

At this point, art no longer imitates life, it is life imitating art.

Pop artists actually document what they see around them, with its lights and shadows. It is, neither more nor less, the plastic manifestation of a culture that is characterized by several factors such as dizzying consumption, technology, leisure, consumption, fashion, democracy...
