A bit closer to home is the beautiful coastal town of Tofino, BC. My wife and I try to come out here at least every few months for a day trip. It's our little vacation destination away from home. One Winter day, we had some beautiful conditions during sunset and blue hour. I don't tend to shoot blue hour very often since I prefer to use a tripod so that I don't have to bump up my ISO too much for handheld shots. But while we were walking back from the hike where we caught sunset that evening, I couldn't help but be blown away by the beautiful twilight conditions that surrounded us. With my wife walking a bit farther away from me and closer to the water, I decided to take some landscape photos using her for scale. I felt that her presence in this image really helped to tell a story. I just loved the dreamlike atmosphere of this image, so I tried to emphasize and enhance that feeling in post. This is definitely one of my favorite images that I have ever captured at twilight.
This image was captured at one of the more 'dangerous' locations on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. I had researched this spot long in advance and was super excited to photograph it during our stay on this beautiful island in May 2022. During the evening we planned to arrive here to shoot sunset, the skies were lit up with stunning golden light. There was even a rainbow in the sky. It was nothing short of amazing. However, when we arrived at the very small parking lot for this location, it was filled right up and there was even a line of vehicles waiting to take a spot. After waiting a little while with no success, and seeing the beautiful light that surrounded us get even better, I decided to head elsewhere. After a few minutes of driving and feeling frustrated because I couldn't find a spot to shoot this amazing light, my wife suggested we give it one last go and head back to the spot to see if there was any parking available. I reluctantly decided to drive back and sure enough, she was right! A parking spot freed up for us just as we arrived. We jumped out of the car and sent it down to this beautiful spot just in time for sunset. It was amazing and the conditions were even better than I had imagined. Definitely a highlight of our trip.
One of my all-time favorite images that I've captured in my career. A stunning sunset along the coast of Mexico in 2017. During our stay here, my family decided to rent a beach house for a couple weeks far away from any major civilization. This little spot in particular was nothing short of peaceful. The sunsets that we were able to enjoy on that private beach were incredible. During the evenings, I'd try to focus on capturing these fast shutter speed shots of the water brushing up against the sandy shore. I just loved the texture and details of this beautiful water as it pulled in and out with the tide. This image in particular was by far my favorite composition that I captured that trip. And despite the fact I had more of a limited kit at the time, comprising of an older full-frame mirrorless camera and 40+ year old film lenses; I was still able to capture something that I continue to share today.
