The focus of curation is on inter-media artwork created using tools, technology, and practices that embody the potential of magic and unusual problem-solving methods.

While technology and science have reached unbelievable heights, many problems still remain unsolved and the persistent need for solutions may lead us in many directions. One of them is engaging in magical thinking.

In the past we already have observed a tendency to attribute magical abilities to certain things, both admire and fear them. This echoes the animistic beliefs of ancient cultures, who attributed spiritual properties to everyday items – objects that were believed to possess spiritual power that could be utilized for different purposes – similar to how certain technologies are now endowed with mystical qualities to improve our lives. Nevertheless, we often feel uncertain about the potential dangers and effects of new technologies.

Although inventions and science have become more accessible to artists and the general public, they have also become like mythical creatures that appear in tales and stories – something we idolize, adore, and fear.

Mythical Media refers to both real and imaginary instruments, methods, and technology that artists use in their art and lives.

About HITCH SWITCHERS

Individual artistic journeys in the 21st century can be compared to a modular system where separate nodes are connected in different combinations in order to achieve some imagined outcome.

Artists today link not only their pencils to paper – they link their work and themselves from analog to digital realm, bring their art on blockchains, and become intermedia-like beings. They continually switch between technologies, hitch themselves to certain tools and build their own unique set of pathways.

HITCH SWITCHERS is a continuous series of curated exhibitions highlighting diverse styles from artists who use blockchain as one of their tools.
