Mosaic art is a type of art in which various colored pieces are put together to form pictures or patterns. Historically, mosaic art dates back to ancient times. It was used in the Ancient Roman and Ancient Greek periods and the walls, floors and fountains of some large buildings were decorated with mosaics. Mosaic art also played an important role in the Byzantine Empire and was widely used to decorate the interiors of churches.
