LAVA NAGARE Collection

Lava Nagare collection presents the digital aesthetic of a random movement from Nature. I used the flow of Lava as an inspiration because of its specialty in its viscosity property and character. Not too solid, not too fluid. Considering that the viscous volcanic material doesn’t flow that far from where it erupted, it builds up in layers.

It is challenging to create this kind of interesting and unique movement, especially by computational coding. However, making only natural and organic movements is too plain and expected. I wanted to add some contrast relation between the organic and systematic flow. I, therefore, created some sense of digital glitches in the artworks. As the result, the Lava Nagare is a collection of two contrast poles: the Expected and the Unexpected, Organic and Systematic, and Nature and Digital.

The name “Nagare” means “Flow” in Japanese. It is the goal to make things flow naturally and organically. Japan is a country that represents the word Flow perfectly from its geography, 112 Volcanos, and the land is surrounded by water streams of See and Ocean. Therefore, the name “Nagare” can enhance the intention and expression of the “Lava Nagare” Collection.
