Released Mar 10, 2022
Widely featured across more than 100 online and major print publications between 2012 and 2017, Leo Caillard's "Hipsters in Stone" finally received a proper release on Nifty Gateway last January. Given the success of that release we're thrilled to release the sequel collection - Hipsters in Stone II.
The concept of dressing statues stemmed from his time living in New York and Paris between 2008 and 2011. When he moved back to Paris after a few years in NYC he realized the statues around the Louvre Museum had many overlapping features with their contemporary audience - Similar hair stylings, body shapes and attitudes. Only the clothing seemed to be missing. These iconic figures were the greatest representation of the human form known at that time. The statues, with their clothes stripped away reveal a magnificence of shape and balance. Appearance, in all its many nuances, present the character... As William Shakespeare wrote in Hamlet, ”Clothes make the man." One’s dress sense indicates one's priorities, choices, lifestyle. Are you “in” or are you “out”? Hipster or Classic?
Hipsters in Stone presents a twist on these themes...take the pinnacle of the the Classic world and add a modern, contemporary twist with cropped pants, Ray Bans, plaid shirts and see these icons become iconic. They suddenly become somebody you'd cross paths with in your everyday life.
