BORING APE

In the complex range of categories that contemporary art encompasses, crypto art appears to reflect all the social, political and ideological phenomena of an era where virtuality is surpassing reality.

In this scenario, art has gained value and vitality, serving as an excuse for transactional processes in the cryptocurrency economy. What started as an experiment has become a large-scale project that involves artists, collectors, platforms created to legitimize the exchange processes, and any individual or entity that feels attracted to participate in this ecosystem.

Some traditional art institutions have been drawn to the phenomenon of NFTs and crypto Art; however, many others view this new world with suspicion, where art is not the only protagonist and other actors such as speculation and market manipulation are part of the show.

We could be facing one of the most revolutionary events in contemporary art, since this environment lends itself to a process of democratization of art where all individuals are one click away from appreciating and collecting a digitally created piece attached to a blockchain.

However, the world of crypto art presents countless complexities that require a special adaptation, especially by artists and collectors from traditional art, where talent and knowledge of art disciplines are not enough to obtain recognition. In this environment, other validation factors appear, such as engagement and the artist's ability to connect with his audience, whom he has to entertain.

Boring Ape is a collection that presents a personal reflection about my experience in the world of crypto art and at the same time an invitation to reconsider its potential value within contemporary art as a reflection of the state of current society but not only from an economic dynamic, but also as a trace of our human experiences.

Katerine Escobar Biography

Katerine Escobar is an artist from Medellín, Colombia, she graduated in visual arts from the National University of Colombia.

Her work is surreal and conceptual, based on a personal perception of life, education, politics, nature, religion and contemporary phenomena such as the historical situation of women within society.

She collects elements and symbols to generate contrast or duality, comparing and confronting the natural and the artificial, the sublime and the abominable, the past and the present.

The aesthetic appearance of Katerine's work arises from the technical skill of many years of practicing organic drawings with graphite which heavily influences her approach to digital art.

All of her digital work is created on an iPad, using illustration software that has an extensive number of graphite pencil options. These digital pencils offer super realistic, meticulous strokes. The result of this approach is a natively digital work that has the appearance of a realistic drawing, with a hyper realistic finish.

In her drawings she represents mostly women characters, everyday objects and things in nature such as plants and animals that are deliberately combined to produce provocative, absurd, sarcastic images. The character of her work is reflective, conceptual and at the same time endowed with a universal language that makes it easy to visualize and generate an immediate reaction from the viewer.
