A blue moon refers to the phenomenon when two full moons occur within a single calendar month. This event is relatively rare, happening approximately every two to three years due to the difference in the lunar cycle (29.5 days) and the calendar month (30 or 31 days). The term "blue moon" doesn't actually refer to the moon's color; the Moon remains its usual gray or yellow hue. The phrase "once in a blue moon" is often used colloquially to denote a rare occurrence. This photograph was taken in memory of the second full moon of August 2023, known as the "Blue Moon".
