ASTRONAUT (bronze) Open Edition by Michael Kagan

Based in NYC, internationally renowned painter Michael Kagan is back for a third time on Nifty Gateway since being one of the original launching artists on the platform. His sculpture, Astronaut, 2021 is now an NFT in honor of his first bronze sculpture that was just completed at the foundry. The 6ft 9in / 800lb sculpture will be on view to the public at Art Basel Miami next month. The form is based on the brush strokes of his most iconic large scale painting of the same Apollo astronaut.

Kagan is also unveiling the first group of three of his new twelve “Moonwalkers” series... there are only twelve astronauts to have ever walked on the moon... two from each of the six Apollo moon landings. Kagan will be releasing them three at a time and the collectors that have all twelve moonwalkers in the end will have the opportunity to own a Kagan painting.

Kagan‘s work has been displayed in numerous exhibitions worldwide, including a new solo show this month in NYC and an upcoming show at Almine Rech in London. Past work includes commissions from The Smithsonian, collaborations with Pharrell Williams, and an award-winning album cover for White Lies. He recently had a solo museum exhibition at Virginia MOCA and a monograph of his work was published in 2019. His work is in the collection of Nifty Gateway’s parent company Gemini Trust Company, Yusaku Maezawa Collection, Maki Collection, Founder’s Fund, and Hall Collection.
