Trippers by Coldie

Searching for El Dorado is the genesis release for the forthcoming novel experience by Coldie. A tale of naive gluttony and the return to self, the story tells a tale as old as time. Originally written in 2010, the story comes to life for the first time using stereoscopic 3D collaged landscapes of AI imagery and personal photography. The first episode of the Trippers series introduces The Trippers, a time-worn group of time traveling prospectors deep in the elusive search for the city of gold, El Dorado. As they trip through time and dimensions, we find them in a post-apocalyptic barren landscape. Captured as documentary 3D photography, each frame is an homage to classic stereo cards of the 1800s. Encoded with commentary touching on both past and present culture, we see evidence of our wares, impulses and what we value as collectors. Through the story of these characters we ourselves discover reinterpretations of heavily thematic aspects of modern art on our navigation of this wild journey. We bring our own misfit friends, who share the same vision, as we seek El Dorado, for it is real. Coldie’s exhibition at RHaus during Art Basel 2023 is the first chance to experience the artwork using View-Master, 3D glasses, the Leia Lume2 Pad 3D tablet, and VR.
